Centrifuge modeling of temperature effects on the pullout capacity of torpedo piles in soft clay

This study presents the results from centrifuge modeling experiments performed to understand effects of temperature changes on vertical pullout capacity scale-model torpedo piles embedded in soft clay layers. The model pile is a pointed stainless-steel cylinder with fins at top, installed by self-weight base layer using stepper motor. An internal electrical resistance heater was used control temperature. first heated until and pore water pressure surrounding stabilized (drained conditions), after which cooled. Pullout tests indicate that allowing drainage excess pressures induced heating different temperatures followed cooling leads an increase axial maximum but does not affect stiffness. Push-pull T-bar penetration before undrained shear strength occurs near pile, post-test gravimetric content measurements greater decrease void ratio occurred soil layers higher temperatures. found follow linear trend change, smaller slope than observed for end-bearing energy tested previous studies same clay.
